AKEETOONS.com – A New Edutainment Portal

Ms Wendy Chin, the Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O.) of Akeetoons Sdn. Bhd., welcomed the press and expressed her appreciation for their kind attendance to this briefing. It was followed by a multimedia preview of Akeetoons showreel to let the press have an idea of the company’s projects. Akeetoons is funded by MDEC, a custodian of MSC Malaysia under the Technopreneur Pre-Seed Fund, which is to encourage Technopreneur Development in Malaysia.
Akeetoons is the first company from Penang to be granted this fund. Another highlight is that it is also the first company from Penang to be involved in Digital Creative Multimedia Content Development specifically in cartoons and comics under this fund. The company has been selected to showcase their products and services during the 16th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in KLCC from 18 - 21 May 2008 under the Best of MSC.
The objective of the project is to provide an edutainment portal for the young including kids, teenagers, and adults who are still young at heart. Since every child is laden with school work, homework, tuitions, extra classes and others all in the name of education, there is an urgent need for these young ones to relax and at the same time find the time to pick up new skills in producing creative contents. Akeetoons will help to stimulate and nurture their creative thinking by providing in-house comic and cartooning modules which act as a guideline for them to come out with their own works. The project will act as a platform for them to showcase their works to the world when they submit their works to Akeetoons. This will make them feel appreciated and will generate a stronger interest in this area.
Akeetoons Sdn Bhd was founded by Mr Stanley Lim (C.E.O.) or better known as AKEE (his pseudonym) who has 20 over years of cartooning experience. He started to draw cartoons since his younger days and his first cartoon was published in 1979, in one of the oldest humour magazine in Malaysia i.e. Gila-Gila. Since then, he has further polished his strokes to create cartoons for a few publications and has won several awards. His endless creativity and artistic mind has enhanced his skills in art and his works were exhibited in several exhibitions throughout the country. He possesses a Teaching Certificate from the Education Ministry of Malaysia, Diploma in Commercial Art and Diploma in Cartooning. He has been teaching Art since 1989 and has brought interesting art and cartooning courses to the younger generation.
